The English Patient movie quote

Betrayals during war are childlike compared with our betrayals during peace. New lovers are nervous and tender, but smash everything. For the heart is an organ of fire.

an impetus for me...

Though we seem to be sleeping,
there is an inner wakefulness
that directs the dream, and
that will eventually startle us back
to the truth of who we are...

why is everyone so stressed out?
or am i an odd (wo)man out?
please do some dance, sing and shout

awesome twosome

I think we dream so we don't have to be apart so long. If we're in each others dreams, we can be together all the time.

(Calvin n Hobbes)

water harvesting

I.
i cut my long curly hair
i changed my wardrobe
i bought a new pair of specs
i started wearing red shoes
i stopped eating, drinking n sleeping
i wrote... scribbled... n drew with a violet pen...

because ...
i was into 'water harvesting' ...
i still am...

II.
you asked me the other day, "what does 'water harvesting' mean..?"
"mmm...'water harvesting' is a process where ...", i was looking for words...

where...

water starts dripping
you start tripping
the mindscape gets washed out
you dig inside your heart
to know more about that..
layers after layers
begin to peel off..
your soul cries out
your mind is ruptured
chaos...filth...noise...
words...webs...n tides...
everything is so closely knit
under those layers...
from where water is rolling down
in the form of tears...

ROTTEN,
BARRED,
BANNED,
CONVICTIONS...

BLURRED, DIFFUSED, DILUTED
FAITHS AND BELIEFS...

WHERE TO PUT THE QUESTION MARK?

from same book

'Well Roseanne,' he said at last, 'hmm, I think it's true that- you came here about - how many years ago?'
'It's a long long while.'
'Yes. And you came here I believe from Sligo Mental Hospital.'
'Lunatic Asylum.'
'Yes, yes. An intersting old phrase. The second word after all quite - reassuring. The first a very old word, but its meaning a little dubious and not a nice word any more. Though, for myself, when the moon is full, I often wonder, do I feel - a little strange?'
I looked at Dr Grene and tried to imagine him altered by the moon, more whiskery, a werewolf possibly.
'Such enormous forces,' he said. 'The tides being pulled from shore to shore. Yes, the moon. A very considerable object.'
He stood up now and went to my window. It was so early in this winter day that indeed the moon was prince of all outside.

from a book

Outside it was falling dark and my companion the owl was starting up his motor.
every time
everywhere
I've been watched

Every moment
words I utter
Have been caught

I read U
I recollect U
I tie myself
to review

I post the letters
and post the mails
I tickle the thoughts
and take a deep sigh

I make choice
I make voice
I climb up
to grab the lies

I go ahead
I throw my wings
I pour some words
and destroy the things

I disperse
I disobey
I disconnect
I disguise

Till U
I don't know who
stop penetrating
stop intruding
Inside
Me

I am already so drained

wisdom tree

am i not a wisdom tree?to go nowhere and anywhere to flee?
who is she and who is me?what is wisdom n to be?
emotions i carry
as if i am carrying
wearing balloons
and floating

i eat colourful umbrellas
and cartwheel through the yellow fields
I gulp sheer blueness
and puke the sunshine

you wait till tomorrow turns white
and day after turns red
you think of those
who walked away though cages

i am carrying
careless kingdom
in my stomach of tantrums
i fling i tear
i speed up the gear
i zoom
i boom
i blow
i blast
i shoot
i lust

to create better yesterday...

you know it

i have to understand
you
your needs
your angst
your worries
your temptations
your limitations
your expectations
your nonexpectations,too.
with you running away
with you avoiding
with you busy
with you numb,to me.
just tell me one thing, what do i say when you say,if you ever do,"lets meet" ?
"Let's see", I will say just the way you do.

you know it well,i will never say it.
and
i know it very well i never can.

Extension version from google-
Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you've imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler.

My advisor has a mug that says 'I Hate Meetings'

flow...

you asked me, talking of holding back, can one hold back vomit/piss/shit/sneeze/tears...?

no, is the answer.but yes, is the wish.you wish if you could hold perhaps it happens coz you cant hold.this is fairly true most of the times.times when you want to express something.tears are a feeling.

vomit/piss/shit/sneeze/ are?

we hold back feelings because we feel that its dangerous to let them out? the fear of- what if i flow with the feeling?

Flowing is detaching.we miss the point and never flow.expression is a similar case.

So let us sneeze on that note! 0ne...two.. three..

can we...flow?

Buddha, caste and gender

Uma Chakravarti a historian from Miranda House College. She talked about Budhha, caste and gender quoting from primary sources like Vinaya-Pitika and Sutta-Pitika.

Caste system was not firmly established at the time of Buddhism in India.. ie till 2nd century AD. Buddha created a 'perfect world' only for monks and did not directly challenge the social order but tried to humanize it. Firmly opposed the view that Brahmins are the best etc. Supposed to eat whatever was given.. so no insistence on vegetarianism..also to avoid bhikkus from going to a particular house because he knows that the food is better there.

His cousin Ananda was a feminist and his dialogues with Budhha show that he convinced him to allow women in monastic order.

Caste system is stg that is so ingrained that even changing religion like becoming Christian or Muslim does not get rid of it.. Brahminism is convenient for maintaining status quo for rulers.

Budhha's thought/ philosophy had a relevance to the conditions of his times. Unlike Brahminical texts like Vedas that claimed to be timeless, Pitikas give a clear idea of history and actual specific places where such and such discussion took place. Books by Rhys Davids Pali Text society, Pali Canon.

Buddha opposed mindless cow sacrifices and rituals. Concept of Ahimsa got incorporated in Hinduism from Buddhism. monks not allowed to grow attached to even their robe or bowl. once a year all of their bowls n clothes were mixed in a big container and they picked new ones.
